#JustAShadeDarker Launch!
The Beauty and the Beast- a vicious dyad.
Putting this project together was probably one of the hardest goals I have ever had to find myself trying to accomplish. A part of me was close to giving up due to the lack of support I had been receiving thus far and well…another part of me thought of the impact it could potentially have even if the reach would only be limited to a pair of eyes.
I reminded myself that there’s a bigger purpose in what I am trying to accomplish and this can only be inspired by the ‘little hands and feet’ around the world whom also happen to be in bondage because of their innocence and vulnerability well-sought after in a society driven by money, lust and greed.
I vouched to be a voice of reason not only as an upcoming social justice warrior but rather as a consumer who was once #JustAShadeDarker in not knowing the truth.
#JustAShadeDarker is a project inspired by one of the biggest human rights violations clouding our humanity today, Child Labour. What many don’t seem to know is that the atrocity is highly acquainted with the Cosmetic and Fashion industry in our modern times, making it a fast paced money market scheme that sees the likes of influencers and consumers blinded by the uncomfortable realities that the beauty industry has failed to disclose.
This isn’t another PETA inspired cruelty-free advertisement advocating about the injustices that both the cosmetic and fashion industries seem to practice on our furry companions, which I must emphasis is as equally important but rather we are talking about impoverished children as young as 4 years old who seem to be excluded eminently in social sustainability practices despite the fact that our shelves are filled with goods that are ‘proudly made in calamity’.
On that account, #JustAShadeDarker will officially launch in March 2020 making it a 3 month project dedicated to delving into this topic much deeper than we should have done awhile back.
This project will be an exclusive as I was graced to have been given the opportunities to interview well-known international influencers/models both in the Cosmetic and Fashion industries, brands and experts who were willing to shed some light into this issue and most importantly the type of role society can play in a world that worships consumerism.
Additionally, a huge thank you to all my readers and followers of whom I can never fully express my adoration into full expression because of the love you always seem to show me which surpasses the value of words.
#JustAShadeDarker is dedicated to a South African missing child, Amahle Thabethe who had went missing on the 4th of April 2019 in South Africa. As searches continue for her, may this project serve as a reminder that we as civil society have a greater responsibility in our hands — to love our children and to protect them above and beyond.
